The Upside Down will heat up this summer.
Fans have been anxiously awaiting any word on when the fifth and final season of the Netflix smash hit Stranger Things will get in front of the cameras, and now, one of the show’s stars has spilled the beans.
David Harbour–who plays one of the show’s mainstays, Jim Hopper–spoke at the recent Middle East Film & Comic Con, and divulged that the next season is expected to start filming in June.
Harbour–who has expressed mixed feelings about starting the show’s final season, but has admitted it is “time for it to end”–said the cast and crew are “walking into Season 5. I’ve got a couple more months to train. We start shooting the final season in June.”
Commenting on the previous season, Harbour said he “did a lot of training for Season 4 when Hopper was in that Russian prison. It was about making Hopper a different guy and shedding a layer of himself physically, mentally and emotionally.”
But now, the actor joked, “he’s back in town, back in America, where they have cheeseburgers–so he’ll be well fed.”
The final season–not expected to debut on Netflix until sometime next year–has a storyline that’s being kept under wraps for the moment, but the plot apparently pleased the streamer’s executives.
“I saw executives crying,” series co-creator Ross Duffer said about showing the story outline. “It was wild. This thing has defined us and these Netflix people from the beginning. It’ hard to imagine the journey coming to an end.”
