The Daywalker is almost ready to bare his fangs.
The Marvel Studios remake of the 1998 Wesley Snipes-led Blade has endured more ups and downs than a scream-inducing roller coaster, but a solid step forward was taken this week with the naming of an acclaimed cinematographer, according to a report in The Cosmic Circus.
The vampire reboot–expected to finally start shooting in May–has signed Oscar-nominated Matthew Libatique (Iron Man, The Whale) to handle the cinematography. He will work closely with newly christened director Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country), who is getting his cameras ready in Atlanta right now.
The new Blade–set for a Sept. 6, 2024 theatrical release–is written by Michael Starrbury, and stars Mahershala Ali in the title role, alongside Delroy Lindo, Aaron Pierre and Milan Ray.
The feature reportedly will follow Eric Cross (aka Blade)–a half-human, half-vampire hybrid–who has spent his long life “seeking to rid the world of vampires like the one who killed his mother,” according to the synopsis.
The Marvel Comics Blade character–created by the writer-artist team of Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan–first appeared in the award-winning The Tomb of Dracula No. 10 way back in 1973.
