Evil. Animated. Bloody. Checks all the boxes.

Resident Evil: Death Island--an animated film from Sony Pictures based on the classic horror franchise–will hit theaters over the summer (stay tuned for an exact date).

And the MPAA this week slapped it with an official rating. The CGI feature has been rated R for “bloody violence and language.” Anyone surprised?

Death Island–directed by Elichiro Hasumi from a screenplay by Makoto Fukami–is the sequel to 2017’s Resident Evil: Vendetta, and follows Leon S. Kennedy on a mission to rescue the kidnapped Dr. Antonio Taylor. Unfortunately, a mysterious woman stands in his way, according to the synopsis.

Meanwhile, Chris Redfield is investigating a zombie outbreak in San Francisco, and the only thing the victims have in common is that they all recently visited Alcatraz Island.

So, armed with that knowledge, Chris and his team set out for the infamous island–where (of course) new horrors are waiting.
