It’s never too late to go home again.

Evil Dead Rise–the latest entry in the classic horror franchise–will hit theaters April 21, but without Sam Raimi–the guiding mastermind of the first trilogy–at the helm.

But that may yet change if everything falls into place.

Raimi–who wrote and directed The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987) and Army of Darkness (1993)–said during a recent Reddit chat he’s still very interested in the series. “I would return to direct or write one, if I could,” he said.

“I loved my experiences on those sets,” Raimi added, “and I have a great relationship with my partners on Evil Dead and Doctor Strange. Each could be a very exciting experience for me creatively.” What all that means remains to be seen, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, Evil Dead Rise–written and directed by Lee Cronin–follows Beth (Lily Sullivan) as she visits her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) in Los Angeles. But that reunion does not end well, as the sisters discover “a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building,” according to the synopsis.

And things get even worse when an army of “flesh-possessing demons” embroil Beth in a battle for survival–and she faces “the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”

The cast also includes Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis and Tai Wano.

Keep reading Horror News Network for any further updates on Evil Dead Rise–and on Sam Raimi’s possible return to the franchise.
